Be Hopeful and Thankful

“God has a plan for your life.”

Have you ever heard those words before? They are encouraging. They give us a hope for tomorrow. Even when everything seems to be going wrong, we can always be sure that God holds our future. He is in control of the outcome.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

We often forget, however, that God’s plan doesn’t only exist in the future. When the book of Jeremiah was being written, a lot had happened in Israel. God had chosen Israel to be His people. They had been exiled to Egypt and endured terrible hardships as slaves in a foreign land. They had seen God work miraculously to free them from the Egyptians. They had reached the promised land. They had lived under the leadership of judges, whom God himself had appointed. They had experienced kings, some righteous and some evil.

God’s hand was over the Israelites every step of the way. He had a plan for Israel from the beginning to the end. He had orchestrated the whole thing.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

Look to the future. God gives us hope that He will work out everything for good. We have an inheritance in Heaven. Best of all, there will be a day when all Christians will be able to see God face to face and be in His presence forever!

Don’t just look to the future, though! Look to the past. Be thankful for everything God as done in your life. Everything that has happened to you up till now was part of His beautiful plan.

It’s truly amazing. Flashback to every struggle, every failure, and every victory. Remember the joys, the heartaches, and the new heartbeats. Think back to everything that has ever happened in your life. Now picture God walking beside you in every situation. Imagine His presence, always there and always caring.

Just think of what the future may hold! If God has truly been in control since the day you were born, your story is going to be truly amazing. His story is going to be truly amazing!

So look to the future and be hopeful! And look to the past and be thankful.
