I’ve got this crazy idea. What if every time I met somebody new, I asked them what their name was, and then asked them who they are?
“Hi, what’s your name?”
“Who are you?”
Yes, I know what you’re thinking. Come on Tim, what’s the point? That sounds like the most awkward introduction possible! You know what? You may be right. But I think it’s worth a try.
Here’s my explanation!
If you ask someone who he or she is, you do two things.
- You open the door to a deeper and more serious relationship right off the bat. No, if you’re thinking of that girl or guy right now, you’re on the wrong track 🙂 That’s not what I’m talking about. When you get to know more about somebody than just their title, something amazing happens. When you ask them who they are, you’re really asking how they define themselves. The question pierces to the core of a person.
- You get the opportunity to share the gospel. If the person asks you the same question, you get the chance to share how you define yourself: in Christ!
What do you think? Will you take the challenge?
