As Jesus himself was called to lead the people by his voice, to witness to the people of his land, and to teach those people the Way the Truth and the Life, Jesus has called me, as well as many others, to use our voices. I feel I’m called to use mine in a very different way, and on a very different platform indeed.
Marching through the hot, dry, desert sand, across miles of land, Jesus gained many followers. I can almost feel the sand in my own sandals, the blisters he might have gotten on his feet from the miles upon miles Jesus had marched. Some might ask if he had a direction. His direction was very simple: he was the walking Word of God. God himself in human form, speaking freely and effortlessly to his people. His message was always perfect, precise and never a gray area. Jesus had been appointed for this great march long before his birth. He marched straight ahead with his eyes never altering from the divine plan. It was with humbleness, discernment, and compassion that he began to gain followers.
How will he use me on my walk, on a very different platform, to gain trust from His people and gain followers for Him? And finally, how will my walk walk compare to his?
Today we are in very difficult times. The USA has never been more divided in government, religion, sexual orientation, morals & ethics, right down to disrespecting our new President. But above all of these things, America is steering further and further from God. Most people no longer think of the USA is a Christian nation and that makes me very sad. Lifeway Research in 2015 found only 19% of respondents considered the USA to be a Christian nation. That’s hard to fathom. What has happened to this great country?
We all remember the embarrassing fallout preceding the 2016 election. During that time, it became clear that we’re dealing with much more than just Democrats vs. Republicans. There are so many people within all of these categories who have no moral compass. Sadly, people have been saying things like, “I changed my gender, so all public restrooms should be open to all”, “abortion is a choice and it shouldn’t matter how I choose to do it”, and other things like that. Many have reverted to picketing in the streets, using violent behavior and yelling discourteous, rude, sometimes vile, even slanderous things about our president. People who call themselves “American” are burning the nation’s flag and slandering our First Lady and her family. Fights have erupted, and riots have broken out, because of this normal business man winning the highest position in the world.
God was certainly behind this past election and I truly believe Satan is working very hard on a huge platform, one that he himself has worked as CEO for many years: the internet. Sometimes the internet can be a bigger witnessing tool than walking through the land to spread Gods word. Maybe God allowed Satan to use it, but we have the same opportunity. Maybe now it’s time to take it back.
Truly we are living in an age of computers. They are with us all day long. We have our cell phones with us constantly. I see people eating at restaurant’s, shopping at the mall, or sitting at the park. Generally speaking, almost every person I see is either texting, talking, or tweeting. Clearly people are glued to their cell phones! Twitter, Facebook, Instagram… the list goes on. Let’s face it, social media is all the rage. I often wonder what God thinks about this. How would Jesus use the internet? If he were here walking with us on earth today, what would He want Christians to do in terms of Social Media and spreading his word?
I feel today that Christ has called me and many others to this platform of social media for His glory. Imagine this for a second: social media is a platform where His word can reach more people than we ever thought possible!
The message is very simple, just as Christ’s message was simple. The terrain is very cold, sometimes rude and hurtful, just as it was when Christ marched it. “Left, left, left, right, left”, through the desert sand, using keen examples in parable form to teach his word, casting out demons and laying on hands to heal the sick. The approach is gaining trust and friendship, which is no different than when Jesus himself gained the trust, and friendship, of his twelve disciples. By doing so he gained many more followers, and this is the same course of action to take today with social media witnessing. So the comparisons are a lot alike. There may not be any laying on of hands to heal the sick, but one can lead someone to Christ, then find them a Church in their area that will go out and do this great gift through Christ if needed. We have the opportunity to pray for people. This platform is so diverse, every Christian should make it part of their day to day witnessing mission.
Jesus marched through that hot sandy soil, standing tall with only one mission being to spread his word and to save our souls. I am sure if he had the means to use a platform like social media he would certainly use it. Now I and many other followers of Christ will, “Forward march Left, Left, Left, Right, Left!” just as many soldiers before us in perfect cadence with straight faces and one mega mission. I will march with Christ, and I will humbly use my Freedom of Speech with only Christ’s guidance to speak his truth on the social media platform with all intense and purposes to lead all souls to him. This is my calling as a writer and Christian. I feel a huge responsibility in answering this calling to my fullest abilities. I will intercede in prayer for others and willingly and humbly make friends in hopes they too will become disciples in Christ if they have not yet heard his word. Thank you Jesus! For what you have done is truly something I cannot even begin to give enough thanks for. It was a truly immaculate walk and through your death and blood you shed we now have eternal life!
God Bless President Trump and God Bless America!
Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting,
‘Praise God for the Son of David! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Praise God in the highest heaven!’
