Selfishness, Jealousy, Pride, and Envy

Selfishness, Jealousy, Pride, and Envy.

These are all feelings – emotions that we carry around all the time. They are all wrong. Wouldn’t the world be a better place without all these things?

Wait a second… God is selfish. Actually, God is all these things – He’s selfish, jealous, prideful, and envious. I mean, in Exodus God even calls Himself jealous (Exodus 34:14). Oh, and He’s GOOD.

So they’re wrong for us, but right for God?!

Of course! God made all things, and through Him all things exist! He’s infinitely greater than us in all respects, so He deserves to be selfish. He made life, so He should be the center of it. But instead of acknowledging that, praising and worshiping the awesome, powerful Father in Heaven, the human race has rebelled against God. The human race has attempted to put man in the center, above the far superior Creator.

That’s why, from the way I see it, selfishness is the basis of sin (The Epidemic of Self). We care so much about ourselves. We want a good career. We want to get farther in life than our peers. We want pleasure SO bad! We want anything that will make us feel good – anything that will make us “happy”. We want. We want. We want. STOP!!!

It’s NOT about us!

We shouldn’t be selfish. God should be the center of our lives.

We shouldn’t be jealous. We should want God to get what He deserves.

We shouldn’t be prideful. We should boast in Christ, and what He’s done for us.

“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

Galatians 6:14

Make God the center of your life today.
