Do you… believe in miracles?
Sometimes the supernatural can seem illogical, self-contradictory, unbelievable, and, well, unnatural. I’m here to assure you that is not the case! You don’t have to throw science out the window to believe in miracles, and here’s why.
Let’s take a look at the word “supernatural”. The prefix “super”, according to Dictionary.com (look it up), means to be above or beyond something. The word “supernatural” means to be above nature. By definition, supernatural events don’t contradict nature – they’re simply above nature.
Our awesome, majestic God created the universe. He has complete control over it, and He has the power to manipulate it in any way He wishes. He’s able to orchestrate even the smallest of cellular and anatomical interactions. He’s above it all!
See, miracles are more than things we can’t explain. They’re not just the everyday happy coincidences we encounter. They are more.
Miracles are the fingerprints of God on His creation.
It’s really a beautiful thing. God, the creator of the universe, chooses to step in and hit the overrule button on His creation.
The greatest miracle of all is Jesus. God, the creator of the universe, chose to step in and save us from our inevitable path of destruction by sending His own son to die for us! It was all according to His plan.
I’ll end with this. There’s a missionary family I know. At one time in Africa, a group of rebels was trying to take over villages with military force, hoping to eventually overcome the capital. The village the family was in was being surrounded by rebels and the people in the village were terrified. Then the missionary family’s “house helper”, a native, had a dream. She saw hundreds of angels standing on the mountain nearby, and she knew God’s hand of protection was on them. And you know what? They were safe. The rebels caused no harm and left soon after.
Yes, I believe in miracles.
