The Epidemic of Self

Right and Wrong. Good and bad. Love and Hate.

What is sin?

It is universally thought that selfishness is wrong, yet those who say that it is wrong are selfish themselves. In fact, most stumble when asked to give a solid reason why selfishness is wrong.

Close your eyes. Imagine a world where every human being is selfish – so utterly selfish that just about everything they do, think, and say is governed by Self. Self is the king of earth. Selflessness has no place in the world except behind bars.

Now open your eyes.

You are living in that world right now.

Why? We are living in a world governed by Self because we are living in a world enslaved by Sin. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I believe Self is at the very core of sin. In the ideal universe, every soul would have GOD first, then others, then self.

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 22:37-40

However, we live in the tainted universe. In the tainted universe, humans puts Self on the throne of their lives, and others last. God has no place in the lives of the average human being.

The only way to escape the epidemic of Self is to accept Jesus’ payment. God, who should naturally be the king of everyone’s life, became a servant. He came to earth to break the bondage of Self that governed every aspect of our lives. He took the punishment of our sin, which was death. Now, through the power of Christ, we can make God the king of our lives, the way it was always meant to be.

The way it was ALWAYS meant to be.
